Easy “Mile High” Biscuits
INGREDIENTS
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 tbsp sugar
1/2 tsp salt
4 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp cream of tartar
3/4 cup cold butter, cut into small cubes
1 egg
1 cup whole milk or buttermilk
DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
Which together the flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, and cream of tartar in a large bowl.
Using your hands, incorporate the butter into the dry ingredients. Work the butter until pea-sized pieces remain.
Whisk together the milk & egg in a small bowl & pour into the dry ingredients.
Mix until the dough comes together, it will be sticky.
Turn the dough out onto a generously floured surface. Sprinkle some flour on to the top of dough and quickly knead 15-20 times or until your dough comes together.
Pat the dough out to 1 inch thickness and cut with a biscuit cutter. I typically get 8 huge biscuits, but you can get more the thinner or smaller biscuits you cut.
Place the biscuits on a parchment lined baking sheet and bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown on top. Brush with melted butter & enjoy!
